Payment & insurance

Your first lesson is free

Taking part for the first time is as easy as turning up in your gym kit. You can see for yourself if Aikido is something you want to pursue and if our club is the right place for you to practice in.

Also, we don’t charge spectators — if you want to watch before coming for your first free lesson, that’s fine too.

Membership and insurance

£25 Initial membership fee – this includes your first year’s insurance (Please complete the Insurance Form and hand it to one of our instructors)
£10 Annual insurance fee from your second year onwards – you don’t need to fill out the insurance form again

Once you decide to join, we ask for a one-time membership fee of £25 — this covers administrative fees and also pays your insurance for the first year.

After your first year insurance costs £10 annually — renewed every October — and is payable to Sei Jitsu Aikido Ryu. (PDF Insurance Form available for download here.)

Mat fees and gradings

£6 Our per-class pay-as-you-go mat fee
£40 Monthly membership – payable in advance by Standing Order or Direct Debit (see Payment information below)
£10 Grading fee
£50 Student term fees – payable termly in advance by Standing Order or Direct Debit

Our pay-as-you-go fee is £6 per class. If you know you want to attend 2 or more classes per week then the monthly membership offers better value at £40 per month, payable in advance by Standing Order or Direct Debit.

We offer concessions for students of the University of Sussex: Membership costs a mere £50 per term.

Gradings up to 1st kyu cost £10 and are held at the discretion of our instructors. You don’t have to grade unless you want to, and you will not be called upon to grade unless our instructors think you are ready.
